sending positive vibes for the scan tomorrow. Animals are resilient and I know she is more towards an older hamster but she has been cared for so well by you over her time with you that she is healthy and her body is more able to fight what’s going on. Please keep us posted on the scan.

When I look at the portrait of her and see it progressing I send even more positive vibes. Take it one day at a time.

Totally rooting for you and Luna!
Thanks, your comments do really help. Luna is the sweetest thing, but she can be so stubborn too (which i love and it makes me laugh). The vet loved her too, I think he was more used to being attacked by hamsters.

Try not to worry too much - she did probably wear herself out. And some hamsters can feel a bit "off" on baytril. Nugget looked a bit ropey when he was on it but back to normal when it was finished.

I would definitely try the runny honey in the syringe - just a bit - makes it a less unpleasant experience if given by syringe.

Hi all. Luna update: She got dropped off at the vets this morning by my awesome friend. Luna had a scan and an xray and also on examination there was puss and blood coming out of her (poor thing). It looks like she a lower UTI and because she is an older hamster it may take longer to clear up. So she is on baytrill for a further two weeks, 2 x a day, I can dilute it with water and add honey or cranberry juice or strawberry juice. I'm going to try her with honey first. Finger's crossed it does the trick. She is off loxicom because the only other thing that showed up on the tests was her kidneys don't look so good and we are trying to preserve her kidney function, this could be purely because she is an older hamster, the vet said it would be more worrisome if she was drinking excessively, I said it's more like the opposite she didn't get up for water yesterday morning like normal. He said that could because she is under the weather, so she is allowed cucumber to try and help flush her out more. She has to go back in 2 weeks to see how she is doing, so finger's xd for her. THANK YOU so much to everyone that has been so kind and supported me on here, and the suggestions of trying to get the medicine into her. Hopefully I will get some sleep tonight. Last night I stayed up late to play with Luna and made sure she got special treats in case she didn't make it thru the tests today. I also didn't sleep well. Good news was I also caught Luna on camera last night on her wheel for 30 mins, I can honestly say i don't know when she last did that. It was so great to see.

I think it's quite a common thing with hamsters. And as they get older they maybe get prone to more things. Similar with humans - it just happens sometimes. Their lower parts sometimes get clogged up with bedding possibly? Plus the warm weather and a bit of dehydration maybe?

I would also try the runny honey first - in the syringe with the baytril. SKB recommended this - she may have more details. I assume you draw up the baytril first and then the honey.

She is probably starting to feel a bit better already if the antibiotics are starting to work

Thanks serendipity, you put the baytrill in the syringe first then water then honey - that way hopefully it disguises the baytrill. I get the night off though because the vets already did today's.

i have to keep her in hamster prison tonight - (it's what i call the hideous small cage she used to live in before i adopted her) tomorrow she is allowed back in her normal cage with her wheel and the rest of her stuff to clamber over. She has just woken up and is busy cleaning herself.

The vets said they wish everyone was like me, I packed Luna up with her food and water bottle, chopped cucumber, toilet roll bordeom breaker and her bed/house (so she wasn't too stressed and had familiar things/scents #proud hamster mummy moment . My family and friends are laughing at me, saying it's like sending a kid off on a school trip

I'm really glad that Luna seems to be doing fine, and I love that you caught her on the wheel for thirty minutes. She sounds like she's doing better and happy enough if she's going on the wheel. Really hope she makes a full recovery soon. You're a crazy hamster mummy, Luna has a great life with you. Do remember to take care of your health though, and get more rest. You need to be well for Luna and for all the other little hamsters out there that need people like you to give them a good loving home.
