You'll get to know where he hides things, usually it's right by their nest or where they pee. You can have a poke around and pick out the old things every day or two when you're spot cleaning. You shouldn't be giving them much more than they'll eat in one sitting tho and it would take a few days for more for fresh veg to go bad-bad even in a hamster nest. Soft fruit maybe be more careful but if you can't find it it probably means he's finished it already.
