Nekkid Ham Questions
Can hairless hamsters get blackheads due to lack of fur? If so, how do I treat his ham acne? Also, I kinda wanna do a sand/dust bath for him, but, because of lack of fur again, I don't know how to go about doing it. Please to help?

Re: Nekkid Ham Questions
Don't know about acne but they would be prone to scratches etc or perhaps bruising which sounds more likely, could it be that? They cannot fit through tighter spaces like a furry hamster can as the skin gets caught so make sure all openings in the cage to houses etc are large enough to not catch.
Not sure about sand baths as those are used to clean the fur itself so not sure it would apply to a hairless ham.

It's not bruises or scratches. When I look closer, it does look like a tiny blackhead

Re: Nekkid Ham Questions
It might be dried blood if he has caught his skin on something or scratched himself. Or just a freckle?

Re: Nekkid Ham Questions
Blackheads aren't a problem to be dealt with, it's just a build up of natural oil. So even if that is what it is, there's no reason to look for a solution.
I would be more concerned about his skin being too dry than overly oily. A sand bath might be irritating to bare skin. This is a fairly specialized concern though, you might need to find someone with experience of hairless animals in general, rather than hamsters in general.

Re: Nekkid Ham Questions
Not hamsters but there’s a fairly large hairless guinea pig(or “skinny pig”) community online. Im sure they know best how to care for hairless todents and what to look out for etc

Re: Nekkid Ham Questions
The guinea pig forum is very good and several members have hairless guinea pigs.
