Default Uti

Last Thursday my 22 month old dwarf hamster started peeing blood, I took him to the vets straight away and he was diagnosed with a probable UTI and given 2.5% Baytil.

I have a couple of questions...

1. Is there anything else people can think of that I could/should be doing to help him other than giving him his meds?

2. I'm worried he isn't getting enough of his medication. They want him to have 0.01ml twice a day. Now 0.01ml on this syringe literally requires the plunger to pushed all the way to the base of the syringe and just leaves the tiny amount in the tip. I cannot for the life of me get 0.01ml in the tip of this syringe with also having an air bubble thus i'm sure he's not getting the amount of meds he should be.
FYI to get the baytril out of the syringe i'm obviously adding a little water so i'm able to administer it as instructed.
Do you think he's getting the right dose?

He seems fine in himself, eating ok, drink maybe a little more than normal but not much, not seeming to be any less active.

Default Re: Uti

It sounds like you are giving the correct amount. Some people do add a little juice to the meds which are literally a drop. If you draw up more in to the syringe then tap so any air bubble is at the top then press to eject .01ml in to a drop of juice you can then empty the syringe and suck up the juice / baytril solution If you are able to get him to take it in to the side of the mouth they usually do swallow it fine. Some people have success by adding the drop to a tiny amount of cat food like applaws or to some babyfood but it is safer to give it by mouth if possible.
