Unhappy Are hamsters ok in complete darkness?

Is it cruel to keep a hamster is in a room where not much light can get into and is almost complete darkness, is this OK for hamsters?

I sometimes have the landing light on which will give SMIDGE of light in the room via the little window thing above the door but apart from that, no light enters the room

Advice please

It's not ideal for them to have no natural light. Their body clocks are sensitive to the rise and fall of light and temperature and this tells them when to moult and when to start breeding etc and even when to get up and go to bed. If you can't get any natural light in then you could use a daylight lamp for a certain number of hours a day?

At night it is better for them to be in darkness During the day they are asleep mostly. Although to interact with them and see them some light would be needed in the evenings. As they are night creatures and don't see well, too much light isn't good.

Trying to imagine a room that has no lights in it? Presumably there's a light bulb?

When it's daytime, there is some light in the room but not much

As long as there is some natural light it should suffice to maintain their body clocks.
