Weird Scab?
I noticed a scab like bump on the back of my daughters Syrian hamster last night. I’m unable to upload a picture because of file size. It’s raised red and crusty. It’s located between her shoulder blades. It doesn’t seem to bother her when I touch it. There isn’t anything in the cage that could cause it. Except some strands of hay in her nest. Think she got poked?

Re: Weird Scab?
Could it be from the wheel? If the wheel has a spindle & is too small that can happen, also possibly from trying to squeeze through a tube or hole that's too small.

Re: Weird Scab?
Emoji has a 10 inch silent spinner and a 12 flying saucer in her enclosure. She does nest in in a habitrail home. To get to it she climbs through 4 ovo tubes. Could those be too small? I’ve seen her turn completely around in them to change directions. Although sometimes she just goes backward back up to her nest. I’m not sure if she’s a “big” Syrian or not. I just ordered a scale so I can weigh her.
Have you ever heard of a raised bump/scab like thing being there from birth? The more that I think about it, I want to say I have felt this thing on her before but have never dug into her fur to get a closer look. And I have dismissed it in my mind. But I don’t know if it’s ALWAYS there...
Maybe I should take away her separate nest box and see if it goes away?

Re: Weird Scab?
It could be the tubes so it might be worth taking away the nest box but do provide a good alternative, a large enough house which should be on top of a deep layer of substrate.
I can't think of any reason why something like that would be there other than from an injury or growth of some kind.
