Aww alpacassei thanks for your support! I'm so sorry you and little Stephano went through this too! It's so stressful, especially on such tiny Russian Dwarfs! But I'm pleased to report my lil Ferdinand is also doing really well - if anything, flourishing! He looks _so_ much better than he did, finally starting to get back to his old self (although i won't consider him back to 'normal' until he is obsessed with mealworms again!).
But I haven't seen anything to suggest an upset stomach, plus it's been the first night he wasn't still making little noises of distress all night, and he has been showing real interest in his food again, so really good signs of progress. <3

Thanks Serendipity! I will order it straight away (and they have some other interesting stuff too!) The powder probiotic I have contains several strains of lactobacillus, I'm just adding the teeniest tiniest pinch, hopefully it will do more harm than good until the other arrives.

So glad Ferdinand is doing well! It sounds like the antibiotics are really helping, hopefully he’ll be better soon

Re: HELP! Baytril overdose in Dwarf!
So I realize I'm a little late to the game here, but I got curious so I looked up a few things that hopefully you guys will find helpful as well, maybe for future reference.
Baytril is enrofloxacin, which is a fluoroquinolone.
This class of medications, in humans, can rarely cause tendonitis or acute renal issues (more commonly people who already have kidney issues). It is avoided in children because of the potential issues with their tendons and cartilage.
Similarly, Baytril is contraindicated in puppies as it has been shown to cause abnormalities of the carpal joint and weakness in the hindquarters.
Its oral LD50 (dose at which 50% of subjects died, studied in dogs) is 5000mg/kg
Extrapolated for hamster weight of say 40g, that would be 200mg of baytril.
Dosing for hamsters is 10mg/kg, once daily, can be doubled if necessary.
So again assuming a 40g hamster, dose would be 0.4mg per dose.
So assuming that the 0.02ml was 0.4mg of baytril, even if he had 10 times the dose, that would only be 4mg, nowhere near the LD50 for this drug.
(hopefully I did all the math right.)
In dogs, when administered 10 times the recommended dose x 14 days, only experienced anorexia and vomiting.
That appears to be the first signs of toxicity, so if the hamster didn't have that, is moving ok, and seems to be urinating fine, sounds like he's probably in the clear from an overdose standpoint.
Also, elimination half life is about 3 hours in dogs, over 4 hours in cats. I couldn't find elimination half life for hamsters, but if it's in the same ballpark, I should think that if the hamster is getting twice a day dosing, then skipping 1 dose, as Souffle suggested should be a reasonable amount of time to allow the plasma concentration to fall within reasonable levels

Luckily only about half went in due to difficulties administering but that's still 5 times what he was meant to have - I am freaking out - will this cause serious damage or kill my hamster? Is there anything I can do? It's the middle of the night on a friday, I can't call the vet or anything for help.

Was your hamster ok? I have also had an issue with my dosage, I have given 0.3 ml in 50 ml of water rather than 100ml and I feel awful!!!! Hamster has a UTI, should I ring the vets tomorrow morning?
