Default Clicking hammy

I got Stella out just now and noticed she is making a clicking noise. It's not constant, she was doing it whilst I had her out and for about a minute after she went back in the cage and then she stopped.

I remember Sausage had this problem a while ago as well and I booked a vet appointment, but then he stopped by the time we took him to the vet! So I was wondering if it could be a cold? Me and my boyfriend have both had colds the last week and I have been trying to keep handling to a minimum but maybe I still had germs?

I gave her some extra bedding as well in case she is cold because we had the window open in here yesterday and also I cleaned her out and she didn't have quite as much tissue as she had before the cleanout

Couldn't let you down...!

I've never experienced clicking in a hamster before. Is it clicking from teeth or from chest more?

Someone more in the know will prob be along soon to help

I'm not sure if its coming from her chest but its definitely not her teeth! To me it sounds like she has a blocked nose and as she breathes through it the snot is rattling if that makes sense?! Disgusting I know but thats why I thought maybe its a cold? But I don't want to rule out a respiratory infection

I'd phone the vet for advice if I were you.

I left the window slightly open in the room peanut is in today, and it wasn't until I got in that I realised he had flipped his box over (that teenage rebelious angst!) and was sleeping al fresco.

Now worried he got cold during the day and wil suffer for it.

Get vets advice, it may be worth seeing what it is before it gets too bad, if it were to get bad if you see what I mean!

But yeah I will see how she is tomorrow morning i think and if she's still doing it I will book a vet appointment for the afternoon... even though she will probably do what Sausage did and stop before I take her lol

if you are worried go and see a vet...or like littlepeanut suggested call your vet.

could it be possible that stella was excited when you took her out and she did that clicking noise on purpose?? or she was annoyed??

The room that the hammies are in is our lounge/office so we are in here most of the day working/watching tv so maybe the germs were in the air I'll try to keep her warm anyway and maybe give her some wheatabix in the morning to warm up her tummy

A cold can make a hamster seriously ill. If she develops a nasal discharge she needs antibiotic treatment. Keep her warm but not over hot. Fresh thyme leaves crushed around her nest can help releive congestion and some people rub a little vick on the roof of the cage so the hamster can breathe it. Wait till you see hwat the vet says but do not hesitate as a hamster will go downhill quickly if it gets to her chest. Make sure she drinks plenty and you feed nutritious food. I hope she is better soon.
