Re: Blood coming from rear end, please help :(
Ah yes our last Syrian was like that - wouldn't touch anything with meds in - he sussed it!
I was thinking about this skin issue - they can be allergic to the Baytril. Is she still on it? I know the precautions say that if there's any kind of allergic reaction to it to stop it - assume that's why the vet has given you a different antibiotic.
So is she off the Baytril now? It just seems a big coincidence that she is having skin problems when she's on meds post-op - there shouldn't be anything to do with having an op that causes that.

No she's still on the Baytril, and was for a week prior to surgery too.. so i'm doubtful it's that.
I know what you mean though.. So she was on Loxicom and Baytril for about a week, with no issues, then we spayed and carried on with them both, but after a few days she seemed in pain (not with surgery but her skin started to go all scabby then) so we added tramadol, then last Tuesday I took her back and said it's getting worse, so we added Sulfatrim then and took the sample for the culture.. but it just seems to be getting worse - I'ma call the vets again tomorrow to see if they've got the results back yet (they hadn't on Friday) but I really don't know what else to do tbh
And i've no idea when is safe to give her wheel back, she really really misses it

You can ask the vet about the wheel as well. Does the op wound seem to have healed well? Does she have stitches that need to come out. If the wound is healed and hasn't got infected then hopefully she can come off the antibiotics and then you'll see if the skin improves afterwards. It could be a reaction to the drugs. Might have been triggered by the anaesthetic possibly.
Skin reactions are the first sign of an allergy usually. To something.

I did, she said at least 10 days, but didn't seem very sure. One person I spoke to said 6 weeks - so I'm super confused tbh haha
Wound looks great tbh, always has done. I think they're dissolvable ones
Yes maybe! It's so hard to tell, I mean the vet says to keep her on them because it's a skin infection, but that's a good point what if it's being caused by the antibiotics.. - but then she was on 2/4 meds for a week before with no issues and the other two were added after the skin issue started... I'ma discuss all this with the vet tomorrow. I'm so hoping we can get to the bottom of all this! Been medicating her for 3 weeks twice a day now, me and the hammie need a break from it all I think

She may need her vitamins supplemented. On antibiotics most of the gut bacteria is killed off so they don't digest the food properly and don't extract the correct vitamins. The B vits in particular are needed for healthy skin. Maybe try a small animal multivitamin changed daily in the water? is she on a probiotic to boost he gut bacteria up again?

Good luck at the vets - yes it does sound like she needs a break from medication - although you said she seemed in pain so just the Metacam continuing maybe? Hope the vet says something like that. It's the same with humans sometimes - just stopping all meds sees what happens next and then gives a guide, but I'm not sure I would stop Metacam.
Plus Souffle's tip about vitamins and probiotics. Vitamin E is the skin vitamin. That tends to be in oily foods - or Linseeds or Evening Primrose Oil.
So if her wound has healed well it sounds like she should be off the meds - except maybe the Metacam because of discomfort. And see if it improves.

She's not on anything like that Feel like I've let her down a bit tbh, can you suggest a probiotic and a vitamin supplement? I know nothing about hammies..
I have 4 bunnies and one we use for them is the avipro plus, I don't know if that's suitable for hammies though. My vet hasn't suggested anything either

The vet appointment went okay, we've stopped the baytril and metacam because she'd been on them both for 3 weeks. So just staying on the Sulfatrim and Tramadol. The skin culture came back negative for a bacterial skin infection.. they didn't test for fungal for some reason.. so they're doing that now.. but my vet thinks it hasn't spread anymore and that some scabs look like they're drying up so she's hoping the scabs will come off soon ish and she'll be okay and re grow her fur.. still have no idea what's causing it though. Also gave her wheel back, vet said should be okay as her belly looks great. She's been going absolutely insane on it.. so hopefully it is all okay

Re: Blood coming from rear end, please help :(
I bet she's happy having her wheel back. Wonder why she's still on the Sulfatrim if the skin condition wasn't bacterial? Hopefully not for long.
I started a thread on probiotics recently as I needed some for our robo while he was on antibiotics - there are a few mentioned on there. Pro C seems popular generally and it's easy to get hold of.
Probiotic Options
I just forked out for Benebac on Amazon which was ridiculously expensive - I'm sure some of the other options would be fine. The one Cypher mentioned is sold by rat rations.

Yep absolutely loving it haha. The vet said because she's still covered in scabs and she pulled one off and it wasn't totally healed so she doesn't want any infections. She said just another week for that and the Tramadol.
Ah thanks that is super helpful, we have the pro c one thats another I have for the bunnies here, I noticed you say in your post about it maybe being too sugary for a robo? Mine isn't diabetic...that I know of.. although i'm not sure how i'd know tbh with you.. Do you think it would be okay to give for a week? Is the Benebac one better? Idm how much it costs tbh with you, whatever is best for her is the right thing
