Yea I don't think it's a scratch unfortunately, keep checking her, there's a little more blood this morning, but sometimes there's none.. It changes and she grooms and wipes stuff on the bedding etc so it's hard to keep track of, if it was a scratch I don't think it would be this bad..

I'm not sure I could do her nails myself, she's not great and being handled and she's so fast. I'll get the vet to though again when I see her.

I really hope my vet can figure it out really don't want her to suffer, but PTS when she seems so well in herself doesn't seem right either, but can't have her bleeding tough one, after everything she's been through I won't have her suffer

The tip given was wait till they're sitting still and just do it on one foot at a time - but by the time I'd done the first food he was not having it! I guess she'd need swaddling in a blanket.

Anyway if you're going to the vet they can do the nails at the same time maybe.
Thanks

Yea she's and her baby who I had PTS were my first, I have a syrian too and his nails never need attention. Wouldn't want to have to do his either tbh, he hates sitting still, even for a second haha

Yes it's a worrying time, but hopefully you will get sorted tomorrow xxx If it's an infection then antibiotics can help stop the bleeding and she will improve. I don't think they would recommend she is pts if she is active and eating.

So I managed to get a vet appointment this morning, vet confirmed that the blood was coming from the vagina. Thinks it's a uterus issue, cyst, tumour or something. Suggested we spay her. We discussed age, it's basically my call.. but if we don't spay we should have her PTS because as she's losing blood she'll become anaemic apparently.

We are treating with baytril and loxicom twice daily for a week, just incase it's some kind of infection, but the vet said she'd expect pus or a green discharge if it was, not fresh, bright red blood.

I gave her, her first dose of both tonight... not easy any tips to make this easier?

Also any opinions on what you'd do? I really don't know what to do.. and it feels kinda wrong putting her down when she's really active and seems happy..

Terribly difficult for you. Glad you got to see the vet. I am having the same thing with giving meds to a robo and had some excellent tips I can pass on Thanks to others on here. I don't know what Loxicom is - is it the same as Metacam? (Anti inflammatory/pain relief). The Baytril is the tricky one to give. It tastes awful apparently so hard to disguise in food. Vectis on here gave a good tip for tasty food that disguises the taste - it's on my thread entitled "Baytril by injection" - because I was stuck how to give it (injection doesn't seem to be an option). I didn't want to have to hold our robo and squirt it in his mouth via the syringe - so check out the thread. I'm getting some of the food Vectis mentioned to put the Baytril in. My vet said it's important they get the full dose of Baytril so if you do put it in food it needs to be something they will eat all of - eg a tiny bit of something nice and strong tasting to disguise it.

If Loxicom is like Metacam that is easier. Surprisingly for our robo (who runs and hides if you put anything near him usually) he was drawn to the little syringe of Metacam which must smell nice and sweet and he licked the drop off the end of the syringe. In fact he liked it so much he bit the syringe to try and get some more out!

As for the decisions. Difficult - but I would be inclined to have her spayed. If she doesn't survive the op then at least it's a pain-free way to go under anaesthetic. And as you say it seems hard to think of having her pts when she seems active and happy. But those sound to be the two options as the meds seem to be a temporary situation and won't cure it.

If I had been given those two options I would go with the op. But our robo's situation is different.

See what others think xxx There are more experienced owners than me on here. Hamsters do tend to recover well from ops if they're successful.

Did they quote you for the surgery? Costs vary.

My first hamster with a pyometra had only red blood coming out - and yet she still had a pyometra (and did well with a spay). But I've also made the decision to put to sleep for similar. It's a tough decision and my thoughts are with you.

The food is a great idea, my issue is she's weird with food, sometimes I'll think she really likes something, next day she's not interested. So I don't think that'll work If it was my Syrian that needed the meds it'd be easy. Yes sorry it's the same thing as metacam she hates both

I'm kinda leaning towards spaying.. it'll give her a chance, only thing is the stress for her.. difficult one. Have you had a robo spayed before? I'm wondering how successful it is.. my vet said the anaesthetic is a risk..

Thank for your advice I really appreciate it xx

Thanks, so pyometra.. is a uterus infection.. does that mean baytril could shift it? or is removing it the only option? How old was she when you spayed her? Hope you don't mind me asking, also sorry I don't know much about hammies
