I use naturesmenu country hunter, but have used Lilys Kitchen and applaws in the past. Applaws worked for a harvest mouse It has a lot of chickeny 'juice' which a little of that to flavour the baytril with a few bits of chicken in got gobbled up.

When I had fewer hams I'd freeze left over baby food or dog/cat food in ice cube trays and defrost whenever I needed.

So - assuming I get some baytril into him - which probiotic is best/easiest to use for a robo please?

For a short course of antibiotics, I don't give a probiotic. I give it for hamsters on long courses over many weeks.

Thank you. Vet said two weeks. I am supposed to give 0.2 of a ml.

I was having to give baytril and metacam daily for almost a month.

I'd prepare both syringes and give baytril then immediately give the metacam to take away the taste as she loved the metacam, it's easier if you can hold them in one hand kind of sat up instead of on all 4's, if that makes sense?

0.2ml seems like a lot for a little robo?

Good luck with getting the meds into him!
0.2ml is a lot has it been diluted maybe?

I would assume it's likely 0.02 of a ml; be careful with reading the syringe - 0.2ml is far too much baytril for a robo, unless it is seriously diluted. Even so, it'd be extremely unusual for a vet to diagnose such a large amount for a hamster.

Added snippet; I'm also not a huge fan of using cat food for hamsters, unless it's applaws (their broth varietys) or cosma nature which are not complete cat foods, so contain no added vitamins/minerals dosed at levels for cats (which could be potentially dangerous for hamsters). I'm not familiar with the brand country hunter, but they remind me vaguely of the brand AATU that I use with my hedgehog - and if they are similar with consistency (i.e. it looks like raw ground meat), you are going to have an awful lot of trouble with managing that in a 1ml syringe without it getting messy and/or blocked. Using the broth from applaws or cosma nature would be so much easier, less mess, and no risk of overdosing anyone with vitamins/minerals. I know you already ordered it, I personally would just stress caution with using complete cat foods for hamsters.

Thank you all. I also thought .02 of a ml sounded a lot. I will check the bottle and see if it's been diluted already (if it says on the bottle). I haven't started it yet and am waiting a while. There is no way I can feed him via Syringe - at the moment he is terrified and even generally would just run from a syringe. (Robo).

I agree Emma - I wouldn't normally use anything for cats or dogs with a hamster - but if Vectis has used Country Hunter with hamsters I am sure it is fine It would be a case of a tiny pee sized bit with the meds mixed in.

I am very much inclined to think he has a malignant tumour though, by the way he looks and the fact he isn't unwell and is very active and acting normally. And just the look of the lumps.

Vet recommended making a small square of jelly and mixing 10 doses of the metacam into that before it was set then cutting the set cube into 10 and giving him a bit with his food each day.

The dose of Metacam prescribed was .03 ml of the dog metacam which also sounded high to me. But she is an exotic vet. And said recently it had been decided they had been underdosing Metacam in hamsters and changed the way they give it.
