Upper Respiratory Infection
I brought Hamtaro to the vet yesterday because he hasn't been eating, has been walking weirdly, and has been very lethargic. The vet said he has an upper respiratory infection and possibly a brain lesion. He prescribed 2 antibiotics, a probiotic, and some critical care. Is there anything I can do to make him more comfortable until he gets better? Also, does anyone have any tips on syringe-feeding? He absolutely hates it, but I want to make sure he takes all his medication.

Re: Upper Respiratory Infection
Actually, he just passed away about 45 minutes ago. I gave him some of his favorite baby food, and he took 2 bites and fell asleep. He also wasn't drinking any water. So I prepared some critical care and syringe-fed him, then set him down on the floor. He walked around a little, then came back and laid down in front of me. I watched him for a while, and he eventually took his last breath.

Re: Upper Respiratory Infection
I'm so very sorry to hear this, you did your best for him but sometimes these things are just too much for them, I'm glad he was able to go peacefully at home & there will be no suffering for him now.

Re: Upper Respiratory Infection
Thank you. I'm really trying to look at the positives, like how he's not suffering anymore, and how I got to stroke him while he curled up in front of me as he died (he was a very independent hamster who didn't particularly like being pet and cuddled before then, so maybe this was his way of saying goodbye?).

Re: Upper Respiratory Infection
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. As the weather warms is often a time of losses. Hamtaro was well loved, and had lots of lovely things to eat and a safe place in his final hours. He was a lucky hamster.
