Possible UTI?

Hi, everyone!

My hamster, Rue, is approximately 18 months and I noticed blood in her pee corner earlier this week (Monday AM). We took her to the vet Tuesday AM and she received a course of antibiotics- Trimethoprim. We've tried to get a urine sample to no avail.

Rue seems to be alert and is eating. We have noticed that the blood doesn't seem to contain much urine and she hasn't been releasing as much urine as usual. Is this typical of a UTI?

She has been trying to use the bathroom more frequently and it sometimes looks as if she is trying to go but nothing happens.

We are very concerned. The vet (and I) don't notice any lumps or swollen parts.

Just wanting to see if anyone else has experienced a decrease in urination due to UTI or if we should be looking at something else?

Sorry to hear Rue is unwell, a UTI is probably the most likely cause of her symptoms, I think inflammation may make it difficult to pass urine but I would also consider the possibility of bladder stones, I'm not entirely sure but I think an x ray would be needed to confirm that, if it is that the vet would best advise on any further treatment & some dietary changes may help too.
