hamster rear leg paralysis
hello everyone, i've got 2 syrian female hamsters, who were in the same cage, there were a lot of fights between them, and one of them got rear leg paralysis from the fights, we decide to separate them, 1 hamster = 1 cage, we took the paralyzed one to the vet, and she gave her antibiotics, the hamster seems fine, Although she eat little, and won't come out from her nest, i don't know if she is goiמg to b ok or not, im very concerned, There have been cases where the hamster has recovered?

Re: hamster rear leg paralysis
It's good that you've separated them now as Syrian hamsters are solitary territorial animals & must always be kept alone.
That includes out of cage time, they should never have contact with each other.
Did the vet say what was wrong with the leg? If it's a bite wound then it may heal but it will really depend on what has been damaged, muscles & tendons may not heal completely, is the bone broken do you know? If it's just that she can't or won't use it rather than total paralysis then she may recover.
Make sure everything in her cage is within easy reach all on one level so she doesn't have to struggle to get to anything while she heals, food & water should be as close to the nest as possible.
Did the vet give you any metacam for pain relief or just antibiotics?
She's been through a very traumatic time so just leave her to settle into her new cage for now, don't clean anything other than spot cleaning pee when you have to & don't change anything in the cage while she settles down.
