Hamster care in a house with no air conditioning in the summer?
Hello everyone! I have a hamster who I got in the fall so I haven't had to deal with this issue yet but I wanted to prepare in advance. The issue is that I do not have air conditioning in my house, and it gets quite warm indoors in the summer because of this. Since it is winter, and I have heating, everything has been fine. I don't want my hamster to get sick or hurt because of the heat in the summer. He is a Syrian hamster living in a glass terrarium/tank with a metal mesh lid. Is there anything I can do to keep the temperature of his tank at a good level without indoor air-conditioning?
thank you!

There's a thread here on keeping your hamster cool which has lots of useful ideas.

What country are you in? Assume it’s somewhere that gets very hot in summer! Main thing is out of sunlight and a fan in the room.

I live in Canada, it gets to a high of maybe 30 degrees C in the summer, but it usually stays in the low 20s.

Re: Hamster care in a house with no air conditioning in the summer?
The ideal room temp for a ham is 18-21C, unless it gets extremely hot (doesn't happen often here!) I find just closing the windows & curtains & keeping the fan on, maybe a chilled mug or tile in the cage is enough.
