I think my hamster may have eaten embroidery thread, help!!
Hi all
Earlier i was sewing downstairs i cut some large strands of embroidery thread (quite a big chunk), then afterwards i went to give pip her meds and let her out, when i went to do some sewing about 40mins later, the thread was gone
This is hand-dyed thread, so i'm assuming it's using ink or fabric dye.
Iv'e looked EVERYWHERE for the thread, sofa, stairs, her cage..
This stuff clings to everything, so i'm worried it was stuck to my clothes, somehow dropped somewhere near her and she has ate it :/
What should I do?

Have a poke around in her house/nest/hoard to see if she has pouched it and taken it there for bedding. They often do forage for things that might be nice in the nest. A careful poke so you don't mess her nest up too much. If you can't see it you may need to have a good look at her to see if she seems to have anthing in her pouches, or is having difficulty opening her mouth (ie if it has got tangled in her teeth or anything).
Our hammy tried to pouch a paper hat from a Cracker that was left on the sofa - had quite a tug of war to get it off him! Anything they think could be nesting material.
Come back and let us know and then there may be other things to check but scruffing her would be the last resort (eg to see if it's in her pouches).

I took her to the emergency vets (wasnt cheap) but i felt like i had to
the lady was 80% sure she couldnt see anything, she said about anaesthetic but that obviously carries risks, i opted out of that, due to her being more sleepy anyway at the moment
I asked her if she did eat it, how many days would there be issues, she said 4-5, she told me to look out for her closing her eyes and being hunched over etc.
Trouble is, pip has already been doing that
so how do i know it's due to whats going on already, OR because of the thread?
she's also still not in the same room as me, due to my room either being too cold or too warm.

Even if she pouched it it is very unlikely she would have swallowed any. It's not a food item and would not taste attractive and they only reason she would pick it up is as bedding.
Try and not fret as she sounds to be fine. Hamsters pick things up all the time and the chances are that you will never see it again and she will come to know harm.
Whatever happened it was not intentional and so nobody is to blame.

I don't believe she is eldery.. I swear she was only like 4 weeks when i got her.
Shes on sulfatrim and something beginning with m, sorry cant remember! the vet said its a "sweeter" one but she still wont have it out of the syringe
I also accidentally burnt her tonight when giving her the heated baby food she seems ok but im worried about her having blisters/damaging her pouch.
