Re: vet cost
I don’t know the costs in the US. You would need to find an exotic vet - they know about hamsters. Have you tried bathing the eye with saline? Tepid water (only just warm) and a teeny bit of salt dissolved in it - easiest way is put a small amount of boiling water in a jug and dissolve about half a teaspoon of salt in it then to it up to a pint or more with cold water and stir it all in. You can use a cotton bud to bathe the eye but not sipping wet - just damp - squeeze any excess water out first - so the hamster doesn’t get too wet. Sometimes doing that 2 or 3 times sorts it.
How old is your hamster? Age can make a difference - sticky eyes are more common in older hamsters and can be a sign of infection somewhere else or even tooth problems.

we tried using a warm-cloth and clean her eye, but she only panicked and wouldn't let us. i think it made it worse!! someone at the pet store said it could be a sign of an illness. she is getting old but she still acts like a regular hamster. but i would like to get it treated by a professional vet. i am gonna call our animal clinic, where we take our cats to, tomorrow and talk to them about it.
