Default Safe Disenfectants

Hi,

So I am looking for a disinfectant to give my cage a clean out before I add a hamster to it. However, I'm unsure which ones are safe. The most common one I have seen is the 'Johnson's clean'n'safe'. Is this ok to use as a disinfectant before I bring my hammy home? (I'm not going to use it when I clean it out every 4 weeks or so don't worry)

Thanks

I don't remember for sure but I think that one has a strong smell so although safe you would need to rinse really well & I would also just air everything out for a good few days to get rid of the smell if you did use it.
I use Safe4 unscented but it isn't cheap, you can use baby sterilising tablets which are safe too.
Some people use vinegar & water but it's hard to get rid of the smell of that too.

so do you use the Safe4 spray bottle and are all scents safe?
Thanks for the response btw!

The spray is fine but you want to avoid anything scented as much as possible with hamsters.

Thanks, Cypher that helps! I found one on Ebay that's quite cheap.

I've used the Johnsons one and it's nice - a slight scent but not too strong - you need to rinse well and air it so it wears off. Also the Beaphar one for small animals which is the one our vet recommended. Same thing - slight scent and needs time for the scent to wear off.

Have also tried the one Cypher linked and that's good too.
