How to make a hamster lose weight?

I noticed Sprout hadn't been on his wheel for a while and I tried to put him on and he no longer fits...but he's not just grown, he's gone quite chubby too, even though he has a run in his ball daily.

I am going to buy him a bigger wheel of course, but do you guys have any other advice on how to help him lose weight?

I would just wait and see how he goes when he is getting more wheel excercise. Cut out his 'sweet' treats like yoggy drops and people food and also only feed every second day so that encourages him to eat all types of food rather that just the sunflower seeds and fatty things.
He may just be a big made hamster and there is a difference between a big hamster and a fat hamster. Fat hamsters have folds of skin and feel all squidgy where as a big hamster will feel solid and firm.

He does feel squidgy in places, so I think I've just spoiled him too much

Sausage stopped running in his wheel but I realised it was because it was wayyyy too small! So yeah if you get a bigger wheel hopefully he will burn some of his fat off lol

My hamster has a good wheel and he is still fat. I try to give him food only once a day, his treat is carrot and chinese cabbage and i pick out all the fatty seeds from his hamster mix. When i gave him less food he just ran less in the wheel. Good luck with the diet!
