post-op pyometra
Hi all, as you know PIP had her op done and is now home.
How long does it take for them to start eating their usual food again?
I syringed fed her some baby food last night hourly as per vets instructions and this morning, but don't want to continue doing this as it could give her upset stomach
On the vets 'notes' it said "make sure pip is eating tomorrow morning" (which is this morning)
But she doesn't seem to be eating her normal food, just hoarding it
this has got me so worried, any help appreciated!

Re: post-op pyometra
she is probably eating it in her nest. They do tend to nibble through the day even when you don't see them. Is she bright enough? I would continue with some soft food and even soak some of her usual food just to soften it a bit. Watch to see she is pooing and that will mean there is food going through OK.

Thanks, she seems to be eating now. She's also started climbing the cage and biting it, so I made the decision to put her wheel back in. She ran on it straight away!
I was gonna leave it one more night before I put her wheel back in because her surgery wound is still healing but I thought running on her wheel is better than cage biting and climbing
I took her to emergency vet because I thought her wound had opened and he is very happy with how she's getting on.
Opinions?
Would you have put the wheel back in?

Re: post-op pyometra
I might have given her limited wheeling time. Maybe an hour then take it out. Try giving her cracked walnuts and make a loo roll tube stuffed with nuts and seeds and wrap that up in paper for her to chew open.

I left it in overnight as I didn't want her climbing and chewing the bars :/ her wound seems fine still (just woke her up to give her meds) i don't think she ran on it loads and loads.
do you think i should still give her limited wheel time and do the treat thing tonight?
