Default Strange Pink Lump On eye

Hi Everyone

Just wanted to get some opinions, As of a few days ago we noticed a small pink lump on top of our female dwarf hamsters eye (eyelid) I see many pics of this sort of thing online but my research has come up inconclusive, I see there was someone else on this forum who had an identical problem but never actually said what the issue was, only that the vet had removed it. I took her to our vet and he said its most likely an infection and this is what their bodies do to combat it, but he said it was too early to tell since we literally took her the next day, he asked us to watch it and see if it grows and check it out in a weeks time. He wasn't too keen to go and cut it out because its not in a great spot.

Anyone else come across something like this before? what exactly is this?

She is about 10 months old and she absolutely love rolling around in the potty/bath sand, I though maybe it came from that?

We are obviously very worried and would just like to see if there is anyone out there who could shed some light on this while we sit and wait? I have attached a pic of her.

The dwarf hamsters do seem to be quite prone to eye issues. I've had a couple of dwarf hams who have had this from time to time, usually a saline solution once day for a few days does the trick so it might be worth trying that. If there's no improvement or it gets worse (red, seeping, bigger) I would take her back to the vet as it may be that she needs some antibiotics.

Thanks for responding! I have managed to get some saline from our pharmacy on the way back from work. we will give it a try and see how it looks by the weekend, so we will just keep cleaning the eye with saline and cotton wool until then.

the lump does look slightly bigger today, so i'm hoping this helps!

based on what you have said this could be some sort of an infection?

It could be an infection (though from the picture I don't think it looks infected but I'm not a vet ) or a stye, sometimes they can get little warts too. Hopefully you'll notice an improvement by the weekend. She's very cute by the way
