Luna Sleeping all the Time
My wee Luna has been not active fo about a month now. She is getting old now (nearly 2 yrs) and she just sleeps all the time. I am scared that this isn't normal. It is coming on winter so maybe hibernation? but I don't think so as she has slowly less active since may. I made her a shoebox with bedding and cotton and some nights she just comes and sleeps next to me while im doing homework but I don't know if its best just to leave her in bed. Should u take her to the vet? She is still eating and drinking normally. Any help would be greatly appreciated x

Re: Luna Sleeping all the Time
I think she's just getting old xx If you have any levels in your cage I would personally take them down so she can access everything easily. Just keep monitoring her to see if anything drastically changes xoxo

Re: Luna Sleeping all the Time
I agree with Hammyloui, it’s sounds as if she is getting older. I’m not saying it is her time to go but, it is good to make there life easier at an older age. Like Hammyloui said, if there are any levels with the age I would take them down as well as ramps, hammocks, etc. Just make sure Luna can’t fall off anything to high. I would also suggest moving her food and water closer to her nesting area.
Hamsters in captivity don’t hibernate. They can enter stage called Torpor which is when the body gets to cold and the body shuts down, they may not wake up. Here is some more info about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o66s2INAAGI. Hamster do tend to slow down more in the winter but it sounds like she is just older.

Re: Luna Sleeping all the Time
As the others have said this is a sign of old age, they do slow down & become much less active & with the colder weather & shorter days even more so.
As long as she's eating & drinking ok then I wouldn't worry too much, keep an eye on her to make sure she's managing ok & make sure she has lots of extra shredded white toilet tissue for a really cosy nest.

Re: Luna Sleeping all the Time
Thank you all for the messages. I only have 1 level but it is only small but I am not going to take it down as her bed is all bundled up below it. Her water is right beside her bed door and food there too xx
