Default Is my hamster getting old?

Hello So I have a hamster named Spud, and he/she (I don't know which one it is haha) is almost 2 years old. Spud has been less active lately and it worries me because it used get up around 11-12pm and stayed up until 5-7am but now Spud wakes up at 1 or 2am and goes back in to the hut to sleep after an hour. I've had 2 hamsters before (cutie and coal) but I was too young to now remember when they started showing signs of oldness or anything like this. I read online that when a hamster starts getting old it's less active but I wanted to ask some other people who have knowledge about hamsters. I hope you can help me and give me some advice, thank you for taking the time to read this

Hi there, hammies do definitely show signs of aging such as being less active and just generally slowing down. You could try and see if Spud will wake up earlier by adjusting the times you feed them or by giving an extra tasty treat earlier in the evening.
It could also be that Spud is spending time being active whilst you're asleep too

Hi there. Two years is really quite old for a hamster Yes they start slowing down - a bit like humans - and tend to nap or sleep more but can be quite happy with a slower lifestyle and can still be quite active out of the cage. Our last Syrian lived to 2 years 8 months and still used his wheel until about 2 weeks before he died (just for a minute or so!). And he was still very active on the level but not good with climbing any more.

So keep an eye on how he/she is managing. It can be an idea to lower everything to avoid risks of falls is his mobility seems a bit stiffer or less agile.
