Default Hamster Travel

Hey,
Just wondering how often a hamster would be able to make a 45 minute trip. I know people travel regularly with hamsters for hamster shows etc, so I'm assuming it would be okay to take my hamster to my boyfriends on Thurs and back again on Sun/Mon most weeks? I obviously don't want to stress hammy out too much but don't want to be without her for so long!
Thanks in advance

The distance is fine they do get used to it especially if she’s in the same cage at both ends - however they do get quite nervous at first so bear that in mind. That is a lot of travel though every few days really - I wouldn’t do it most weeks as it means the stress levels are at a constant high and I don’t think it would be fair. Depends on your hamster though I’ve had some entirely unphased and others get quite upset by travel.

I agree that a journey of that duration isn't too much of a problem but twice a week plus having to settle in to a different environment each time you go there & back again would probably be a bit much for most hams.

If I were to half the amount of travel/environment change would that seem more reasonable for the ham?
Thus far she seems utterly unphased by travel (either in her normal cage or travel box) and behaves exactly the same at both houses (the first time we did this she did seem a bit out of sorts the first evening but was back to normal the following night and ever since then she seems fine)
Thanks both of you for your reply, greatly appreciated . I do want the best for the ham even if it means time without me!

Half that would be alright I’d think if you mean every other week. As she gets used to the other environment as time goes on you may be able to up the amount of travel a bit (still wouldn’t do every single week) but again that’s entirely dependent on your hamster.

Yeah I meant every other week
When I travel is it better to do so with her in the carrier or her cage?
Thanks again for your help

Always travel with a carrier - nothing is constrained in a cage. Even if you empty it entirely it wouldn’t be a good idea. A travel box with lots of bedding and one house is enough

That's what I thought but wanted to check - I have a carrier with a bendy log bridge thing which she loves to sleep under and something to chew on/eat. She seems perfectly happy in there during the day, she just goes to sleep :3
