Default tumor

Hi everyone

I am new to this chat, I have 3 very sweet hamsters and 2 adorable guinea pigs.

Unfortunately a Russian Dwarf that I adopted 1 year ago named Montana has recently had a rapid growth next to her bladder. This has led to her not being able to walk straight and not running on her wheel anymore. The vet said that the only solution really given her situation (she is already 2 years old) would be to put her down.

I agree with the solution because seeing her in so much pain makes me very sad, so we are taking her to the vet tomorrow for him to carry out the procedure.

Nobody seems to understand how attached you get to these hamsters, and how fun and cute they are as fur buddies...

Everyone is telling me to just get over it because she's just a hamster but it breaks my heart that in a few hours we will take her to the vet and I know that I wont be seeing her little face anymore.

I just wanted to share this with people who I know would sympathise and understand given that you all have hamsters of your own. I know there isn't much to say but it's almost 3 am here and I'm just really sad about this situation so I thought venting with people who might have had similar experiences might help.

Thanks for reading.

I’m so sorry to hear this, hope you’re okay. It is always always hard, just remember it’s the best thing for Montana and I’m sure she’s had a lovely fulfilling life.

I'm so sorry to hear about Montana, it is always hard to lose a ham & very hard to have to make that decision to help them to the bridge when they're in pain & there's no other way to help them, you're doing the kindest thing for her & have given her a life of love so try to take some comfort in that.
It really doesn't help when other people don't understand how much our hams mean to us & how heartbreaking it is to lose them but people here do understand & will be here for you at this difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear about Montana, it is always such a hard decision to make to help them on their final journey, but it is the right decision. You have given Montana so much love and care and now you are helping her to cross to the Bridge. They are not just Hamster's they are part of the family to be loved and cared for.

Take comfort in the fact that you are doing the right thing for your precious little girl, we are thinking of you at this difficult time.

Play well at the bridge Montana hugs to you beautiful little girl xxxxxx

Hi and welcome to HC. I am truly very sorry to hear about Montana's tumor and the extremely hard decision that you had to make to help ease her way to the the Rainbow Bridge. That is one of the hardest and most painful decisions we have to make for those that we love, but you are definitely making the right choice because you love her so unconditionally and do not want to prolong her pain and suffering. That is the final, loving gift that you can give to your beloved Montana, and I'm sure that she will appreciate that you are thinking of what is best for her. She had a long and happy life filled with all of the love and care that you gave to her, and I'm sure that you have plenty of cherished memories of her to help give you comfort. She will live on in your heart where she will always be loved and treasured.

I am so sorry that others haven't been able to comfort you through their understanding of the loving and strong bond between you and your precious Montana. Sadly, some people do not put the same value on the lives of our little ones as they do with other animals, but we all definitely understand your loving relationship with Montana and how devastating this is to you. Hamsters are such an important member of our families; we are happy when they are thriving, worry about them when they are not doing well, and mourn them when it is their time to go to their forever sleep. We know that she meant the world to you and totally understand what you are going through. My heart goes out to you during this very emotional and sad time. We are here for you. Huge hugs.

Rest in peace, dear Montana. You are greatly loved and will be truly missed. Please send an extra beautiful rainbow to let your loving mum know when you have safely reached the bridge.

Welcome to HC! Sorry it’s on such a sad note

I agree with your vet, given the description, I imagine she must be in pain. Sometimes letting them go is the kindest thing we can do. I can’t imagine how hard this must be on you. Try not to listen to others when they tell you she’s just a hamster- you know she’s much more than that. Hang in there, we’re all here for you if you need to chat. Best of luck at the vet xx
