Default Hamster Tumor!! Please help!!

Hi! I just joined today for this reason.... I have a Syrian hamster named Pomegranet. He is 2.5 years old. I am almost positive he has a tumor on his side. We talked to the vet, and she says its not worth trying to save him because he is so old. The tumor seems to be causing him a bit of pain, and I want
to make his last few days as painless as possible. Does anyone know of anything I could do to ease his pain? Please help.

Welcome! Really sorry to hear about Pomegranets tumour. I’d move his food and water close to his nest and just make the whole cage generally easy to access for him. Give lots of treats and cuddles and he’ll appreciate it.
Unfortunately not a lot else you can do to ease the physical pain and bear in mind they hide it well too. Sometimes the discomfort does become more than they can bear but you’ll always know what is best for him. Wish you both the best of luck.

I'm sorry to hear about Pomegranet, he is a good age so all you can do is keep him comfortable now but if he still seems to have some quality of life, takes an interest in things, still gets about his cage ok & eats & drinks ok but you think he may be in pain I would talk to your vet again & ask if it might be appropriate to have some metacam.

Hi and welcome to HC. I'm am SO sorry about Pomegranet. Ditto all that the other members said; they gave you excellent advice to help your little darling. I hope that the vet thinks metacam will be alright to give to Pomegranet so he can remain as comfortable as possible. Wishing you both the very best luck. We are here for you. Hugs.

Sorry to hear about Pomegranet having a tumor. He is an old man ham now so some extra bedding to snuggle down into and giving him plenty of his favourite treats will make his days more enjoyable.
If your vet is able to prescribe metacam, as the others have said it will make him more comfortable and he will find it easier to move around if he is in less pain.
I wish the best of luck to both of you xx
