Default Syrian hair loss on scent glands

My Syrian has been having fur loss on his scent glands which has recently gotten much worse on one side.
Other than this he seems perfectly fine, eating and drinking as usual and exercising and playing like normal. He's no more lethargic than usual and seems perfectly happy.
Any advice/suggestions? I'll take him to the vet if need be but financially it's a last resort if I'm really honest.
Thanks

I would keep a close eye on the fur loss and if it gets any worse then take your hamster to a vet.

I've noticed this in a lot of hamsters recently and I wonder if it is due to the extreme heat we have had in the UK recently. Even at the show I judged last week the coats were poor and there was a lot of thinning over the scent glands. I hope that as they weather cools that the hamsters will regrow new coats.
Keep a close watch on it and if it gets red or itchy or spreads a lot then have him checked out by a vet.

Soufflé gave some great advice and I agree with it. If he is scratching, licking, or even biting at it excessively I would take him to the vets. Keep us updated on how he is doing!

I also agree with what the other members have said. I hope that his fur grows back again soon and he is alright. Best wishes.
