Unhappy I got my blood on my hamster

Basically, I was playing with my hamster, when I was going to put her back, she bit her. I bleed and some of my blood went on her fur. I'm really scared, will she alright?

If you're worried you could use a damp cotton bud or corner of a cloth, to wipe the bit of blood off her fur - even if it's dried on now. Not really wet - only just damp - wring it out well. If she gets too wet it's not good although in this weather she'd dry off quickly.

They usually either clean their fur in a sand bath or lick themselves clean but they have instincts as well and if she didn't like the blood I think she wouldn't lick it. If she has licked herself clean and you're worried that ingesting your blood may be harmful (which is a bit of an unknown factor) then just observe her for a day or two and if she seems unwell at all, take her to a vet. I am sure she will be fine - Hamsters tend not to lick things they don't like and she's more likely to try and rub it off by rolling in sand or bedding.

But if it's still there you could sponge it off gently as mentioned above. It might be an idea to have her in a cardboard box with a cushion in the bottom when you do it and hold her in there (ie lift her a bit) in case she wriggles free and tries to escape.

I remember being bitten by Twinkle years ago and my blood dripped into her cage and onto the substrate and she sniffed at it, she did push it away and I removed it. I also remember the pain and having 2 little holes on my finger Ouch.
Your ham will clean herself, they're very thorough.
Hope your bite heals fast.
