Drinking an excessive amount of water?

Hi,

I have a Syrian hamster (male, 2 years and 3 months) who has been drinking an excessive amount of water over the past two to three weeks. He usually drinks less than a fifth of the bottle every day (the bottle is from Pets At home and holds around 75ml) but now he drinks a third of the bottle every day (around 25ml per day).

I live in Cambridge, UK and a heatwave started about three weeks ago with temperatures rising to 25 to 30 degrees.

His diet (been given him more vegs and fruits lately):[LIST}[*]Harry Hamster Complete Muesli (he doesn't really eat any, just stores them)[*]VetIQ Nibblots Apple Treats (one per day)[*]Quite a lot of flavoured drops (apple, chocolate, milk, etc) (at least two per day)[*]Fruits and vegetables: apple, banana, watermelon, Chinese leaf, cucumber (at least one piece of veg or fruit a day, depending on whats available)[/LIST]
He has been peeing a lot and I have to clean his toilet every day now. Is it possible that he has diabetes (is it caused by his diet)and should I take him to the vet or is it just because of the heatwave?

The heat shouldn't cause him to drink that much, in a hamster that age it is more likely to be his kidneys which often don't function so well in older hams rather diabetes which isn't common in Syrian hams but it is also possible that he may have a UTI which would need to be treated by the vet.
