Default Is my hammy dying?

okey, so a couple of months ago my syrian hamster was just laying lifeless in his cotton with no will to live. He has always been a big guy but he looked anorexic! you could see all his bones, he didnt open his eyes and he couldnt walk. i was feeding him water through a syringe every hour for the next week "i took free from school" he got better! he was kinda opening his eyes and he was kinda walking, but only in circles and he would fall over on the side constantly. he was also just shaking his head vigorously. i could tell he got upset that his body didnt do as he wanted. its been about 2 months but i need to know whats wrong..... hes not even a year old! i find myself holding him just crying for hours cause i feel like im letting him down.

Default Re: Is my hammy dying?

Have you seen a vet with him yet? If not you really need to see a hamster experienced vet and have him examined. It sounds to me like he has had a stroke and though he has made a partial recovery enough to sustain life with your help he has suffered some lasting damage which is unlikely to improve. You really need to consider his life quality and decide if he is enjoying life and is able to do hamstery things and go about normal hamster behaviors. If not then he may be suffering physically and mentally and you need to consider this carefully. Be guided by your vet's prognosis and think only of him.
I hope he can be seen very soon and you can get some help and some peace in your heart in making a decision.

Also the cotton / fluffy bedding is very dangerous to hamsters. It can cause blockages and tie round tiny toes. For future don't ever use fluffy bedding even if it says it is safe as it is not x
