Default Demodex

I am a very experienced owner of Syrian Hamsters, 2 nights ago I noticed that my 18 month old male Syrian, Chester, lost some fur on his back. I brought him to my vet yesterday evening who advised me to bring him back today for skin scrapings as he thought it maybe demodex causing this. I dropped Chester down this morning and the vet rang a couple of hours later to confirm it is demodex and that he will need weekly injections for the next 8 weeks, he had his first one today before I picked him up. none of my hamsters have ever had this condition, I have always had boys and they have usually lived to around 2 years old. As I don't know much about this condition and I started to worry as I clean his cage out weekly and always fill it with dust free wood shavings, he has his bedding changed twice a week. I have been reading up about it and apparently stress can cause this. Chester is not stressed at all, each evening he is out of his cage for at least an hour running around the sitting room free (not in a ball) and when he's ready he puts himself back in his cage. Apart from the loss of fur he seems his normal naughty self. He has a good varied diet including veg and fruit. Is there anything else I should do? His next appointment is in 8 days and I have asked can I give the injections myself as I am a nurse (a human nurse though!!) which the vet has agreed to, he just wants to watch me next week.
