Exclamation Hamster Fighting-Blood draw. Need help ASAP

So to cut things short my Hamsters have been fighting. I've been out all day when my mum called me to say she saw blood. I rushed home immediately and separated them Instantly before checking them.

So I've checked both of then and they are both bleeding. Hades has two injuries on his belly on the left side and Zeus had two injuries on his face near his mouth.

I've called ALL my vets and none of them can help me at this time. I can't get close enough to see how bad the bleeding was but from what I can see the bleeding has stopped.

Please please please someone help me. I've done all the research and had the experience and such so I knew fighting would happen, and they are brothers. But their fighting hasn't been this bad before.(I assume its becausep they are reaching maturity)

Thumbs up for getting there ASAP. Keep them separated now, they cannot go back together anymore. Most pairs end up falling out sadly Are you able to get a picture of the wound? As long as it has stopped bleeding, it may heal fine on its own. I’ve had a few incidents in which my hamsters (and other rodents) have gotten out or into skirmishes that drew blood. I usually dab a bit of neosporin on the wound, and keep a close eye on it. Make sure there are no irritants that can bother the wound further. You need to monitor closely, and if they start bleeding again, any vet will do really. Sometimes you can even find wildlife vets who are skilled in treating small animals with wounds. The good (subjectively) part of this, is that it’s only cuts, meaning that almost any vet can treat them if need be.

A picture will really help, as if it is bad enough, it may be best just to get to a vet immediately. I’m so sorry this has happened to you and your little ones. Sending well wishes your way xxx

Hi there,

I have 2 male Russian dwarfs who are now roughly 2 years old, they both grew up together and usually play fight, when they mature however they get territorial and having a small house would encourage that from what I experienced. One of my hamsters started fighting the other about 2 months ago to the point where he was bleeding and going no where near the house. If I didn’t act on it I am sure he would of died.
Your best option is to buy two cages, I did that which isn’t the best for space, however they still seem themselves. People say after a while try re introducing them maybe through a barrier at first, I tried putting them back to see if they may have calmed down after a week but they started fighting almost instantly, so now they are permanently separated. It can be pretty sad knowing they won’t really see each other now but that’s hamster maturity.
P.S I don’t think this happens to all hamsters it just can do with age.

I had to separate my Chinese boys when they turned one. I think it's quite normal. They have both been very happy in their own cages. You can get antibiotic powder for small animals which might help healing of the wounds. Well done for getting there quickly!

Oh no! This is obviously not working out so I suggest you separate them immediately and maybe a day or two later, see if they play together. Maybe do some bathtub bonding with the both of them? If they act hostile towards each other or are genuinely stressed out then I suggest just permanently keeping them separated. I really hope for the best and maybe they will be friends again? If not then it would be sad but separating them would be the best thing to do. Also, yes, I agree, they could be maturing and getting territorial. This would be obviously expected in Syrians and Chinese, but if they are dwarves, then this can happen, not frequently but enough times for owners to know that even dwarves can fall out. I hope this helps and best of luck!
