Re: Teeth injury
Oh no, Sazzle; I'm so terribly sorry that this happened to you and your beloved Willow! My heart goes out to you, and I am sending huge hugs your way. As the other members and your vet said, there really wasn't anything more that you could have done to change this heartbreaking outcome from happening. It was a terrible accident that was certainly not your fault, and you did absolutely all that you could to help save her. Right now, you are in shock and overwhelmed with grief, but time will help to heal your broken heart. Take comfort knowing that she truly knew how much she was loved and care for by you, and she is no longer in any pain. We are all here for you. Hugs.
RIP, sweet Willow. May you be restored to full health and have fun at the bridge.

Re: Teeth injury
It's only natural to feel that it was your fault, I think we all tend to blame ourselves when something goes wrong, when we lose hams we often feel we must have done something wrong even though there was clearly nothing we could have done differently, I think it's a part of the difficult grieving process but you couldn't have foreseen or prevented this from happening, lots of hams bar chew without incident & even when accidents happen it's very rare for something as tragic as this to happen, I know it's easier to say than do but try to accept that & not beat yourself up over it.

Re: Teeth injury
Thank you for your kind words. I think I’ve accepted it a bit more now, although it’ll take a long time to stop thinking about what happened, and seeing the event in my mind, as I have been all week. I have put a photograph of her in a frame where her cage is to try and remember her as she was for the short time I had her.
I’ll need to move all the things I’d bought for her in the past couple of weeks. I felt I was ready to have another hamster and went to town a bit on buying supplies. I thought I’d have her for a long time to come.
I’d like to think I’d have another one, but it’s really scared me so I think it’ll take a while.
Thank you again for your kindness. X

Re: Teeth injury
So very sorry about all that happened to Willow, Sazzle. Every circumstance is different but when I lost Jeeves at only 4 months, I wondered if I had been to blame somehow. That was in January. It had taken time to be ready for a ham after the loss of Mocho and then tragedy struck. By the time I brought Maestro home in April, I was ready again. So much of Jeeves's new stuff had hardly been used and now Maestro has some. It does not hurt any more. Maestro has done that for me and he is so different that it was a new start.
I hope that you will feel able to do the same thing one day.

Re: Teeth injury
I am so sorry to hear this. The exact same thing happened to my first hamster (also called willow) but luckily she wasn't injured. She did get stuck with her teeth round the bars though and I had to push her towards them to release her, it was awful and I was really shaken up. I hadn't had her long either. Try not to feel bad, these things happen and it doesn't mean you did anything wrong. Hugs xxx
