Re: Teeth injury
Am taking her to the vets again first thing. She’s still not touching any food or drink. I wonder if it’s the metcam that’s made her stop eating? She did get up and go for a wee in her toilet corner earlier again. I don’t know how she’s weeing as she hasn’t drank.
I’ll see what the vet says.

Re: Teeth injury
Sorry to hear she's not doing well, I guess it may be the metacam if the dose was high, I haven't found they show any adverse reactions with the metacam drops though.
It may just be that she's still too uncomfortable or still in pain, unless the vet can have a really good look at her teeth you won't really know if she's able to eat or not.
Good luck with her, hope the vet's can help get her on the mend.

Re: Teeth injury
Thank you.
I’m back from the vet now. They’re going to give her an anasthetic so that they can have a proper look at what she’s done. They said they’ll call me in the next couple of hours. Her eyes are sticky again. He thinks she’s damaged her jaw and nose. I’m glad he’s willing to at least have a look at her. I was expecting the worst immediately if I’m honest.
Thanks again for your help. The people on this site are so good to talk to in situations like this. It’s very much appreciated.

Re: Teeth injury
It's a worrying time but at least she's getting the care she needs, let us know how it goes, fingers crossed for her.

Re: Teeth injury
Her injuries to her jaw and mouth were horrific.
I’m heartbroken to say that she had to be put to sleep. I only had her 2 weeks & feel absolutely terrible.

Re: Teeth injury
I'm so very sorry, it's really hard to lose a ham so soon & so young, don't blame yourself for this it was a very unfortunate incident that you couldn't have foreseen or prevented, you acted quickly & got her the help she needed, you really couldn't have done more for her.
Even though her time with you was short I'm sure she knew she was loved.

Re: Teeth injury
Thank you.
I’m just devastated. It’s like the whole things wasn’t even real. I’d taken so long to consider rehoming after Ricky died just before Christmas. I’d got everything she could’ve wished for and this horrible thing happened to her. The vet did say that bar chewing can be really dangerous.
I’m in pieces now. Can’t get my head around it.

Re: Teeth injury
It has been a terrible shock & will take time to sink in I'm sure, it takes time to come to terms with any loss & more time to grieve, be kind to yourself & with time it will get easier.
Hugs to you.

Re: Teeth injury
Thank you for your kinds words.
I can’t express how terrible I feel about this. I can’t stop thinking that it was somehow my fault that she got stuck, but I just don’t know how I could’ve prevented it. It all happened so fast. I feel so desperately sad that it happened to her. The vet tried to reassure me that it was just a freak accident but that doesn’t make it any easier.
I think if I ever have another hamster, I’d have to have a tank with no bars. I couldn’t cope if anything like this happened again.
