Really sorry to hear this is so stressful for poor little Bailey & for you herbi, glad to hear there is some improvement to his eye though, I hope it continues to improve & the nice vet can help him some more if you need to take him back.
Get well soon little Bailey, we're all thinking of you & wishing you well.

Thanks cypher, yes Bailey was never one for being handled much, his brother was more placid and didn't mind but Bailey has always preferred to wriggle off and he's no different now he's old! Never known such a wriggly hamster! We got his eye done fairly quickly this morning though. It does look a lot better and his fur is growing back round it although there is still an odd bulge of swelling which I'm concerned about. He's still with it, I was worried because his movements seemed jerky and a bit uncoordinated and I wasn't sure he quite knew what he was doing some of the time but this morning he made a very determined effort to move his nest, presumably in the hope I won't spot him to dig him out of it and he made a good job of it. There still seems a lot of survival instinct and energy left in him despite being so old.

Bless him, he's such a little trooper!
I can imagine how hard it is to put the drops in with a wriggly Chinesey, it's been easy with my little Russian Tinwë but I'm not sure I can imagine it being that way with my Chinese boys!
The swelling does sound worrying, fingers crossed it's not a tumour & settles down.

Thanks cypher, yes Chinese hams move like lightning when they want to don't they! I've just given him his evening dose and he didn't struggle so much and seemed to be listening to me reassuring him but he seems a lot quieter and was fast asleep when I checked on him. He did eat a little porridge but my feeling is he is slowing down now. He was making twitchy movements with his head again which I don't think he means to do. I find this end of life stage so tricky with pets, trying to decide what's best for them

It is hard when they reach this stage of life herbi I know, you know your little Bailey so well I hope he will help you know what's best to do as he goes through this, I think all we can do at times like this is just take things one day at a time really.
Thinking of you both.

Thanks Charlie D and cypher. My instinct with animals is as long as they are eating, they want to live and to try and make them as comfortable as possible. I just gave him his morning drops and he had eaten nearly a whole teaspoon of porridge in the night and wanted more this morning. He's just sleeping in his nest the rest of the time unless he's had a spurt on his wheel I don't know about! I just aimed for his eye while he sat sleepy in his nest today and it more or less did the trick which is about the same result as when I hold him, ha. Yes you're right cypher, every day is different. He seems peaceful enough today.

I am sorry that you and Bailey are having to go through all of this. I am glad that his eye is healing well, though. I hope that his swelling will disappear, too, and it is not a tumor. I am glad that his latest eye drop doses weren't as difficult as the previous ones were to administer; hopefully, Bailey has come to the conclusion that he will be getting them regardless and has decided to be less wiggly about it so the process will be done quicker and easier for the both of you. I will be praying that he is 100% better soon and he will be able to keep up his strength. Hugs to you and tons of cuddles to your brave little one. Bless him.

Dear herbi. I hope that Bailey has had some more porridge and is comfortable. Has his condition changed at all? I hope he is slowly improving. Best wishes Charlie
