Stephano peeing blood and blocked scent gland

I was having cuddles with my oldest hammie Stephano (Russian Dwarf, around 18 months) and he peed on me and when I cleaned it up, the tissue was bright pink. His scent gland has also become swollen and sticky like it’s blocked. I dont know of thats related or a seperate issue though?

I’m hoping i can get a vets appointment for tomorrow but I’m really worried about him, especially now that he’s getting older. Also is there any way I can clean his scent gland and help with the swelling?

You can bath the scent gland with some cotton wool soaked in saline, that should help but if it is blocked & he possibly has a UTI too then he's probably going to need meds from the vet.
Hope you can get him seen soon, things like this can usually clear up fairly quickly with the right treatment so try not to worry too much.

I am so sorry that you and your beloved Stephano is going through this. I totally agree with all that Cypher said. Good luck getting him seen by his vet, and I will be praying that he takes his meds well and has a completely and speedy recovery. Hugs to you and cuddles to Stephano.

He’s got an appointment for 9:30 tomorrow morning so hopefully it will go well. Im really worried though

I’ll try cleaning his scent gland when he wakes up later, I dont think its a good idea to wake him up when he’s sick, poor baby

I'm glad that they are able to see him soon; I will definitely be keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well. I agree that it would be better to not wake him up because he needs to keep up his strength. It is better to clean him at a later time. Take care and good luck.

The vets went well! He’s been given antibiotics for a UTI and infected scent gland. The vet also cut his claws at the same time. His pee has been normal today which is a good sign too

He wasn't taking the baytril well on its own so I've been breaking a little bit off the end of dried mealworms and putting the baytril inside
