Can yarn hurt a Syrian?
I saw Hamper playing with yarn today and I was scared he would get messed up, so I removed the yarn from his cage. Any info?

Re: Can yarn hurt a Syrian?
i would bevery careful with any long thin threads.they may consume some of them and it could cause obstruction of the gut or in the worse case strangulation of the gut. This is the main reason also for not using hamster fluff for bedding because of its thready nature. To keep on the safe side, I would reccomend yarn not to be used in a hamsters toys or bedding.

Re: Can yarn hurt a Syrian?
It is actually not good for a hamster to play with yarn. Sadly, it could cause them real harm. They can ingest it resulting in choking or intestinal blockages, and their paws can also become entwined with the yarn causing them to lose circulation or possibly break their legs. It is always extremely important to make sure that Hamper is always in a hammy safe area and unable to grasp anything dangerous through his cage bars. If you are making a diy toy for Hamper's cage, a much better choice will be sisal string.

Re: Can yarn hurt a Syrian?
I wasn't making a DIY toy, one time he was out and I think I accidentally got some yarn in his cage and HE took it to his nest. I've removed it now, thanks for the help!
