Male...but no testicles
Is it possible for a male Syrian to have not developed his testicles at 15weeks? I purchased him at 10 weeks from an all male store. My first guess was that I ended up with a female, but there’s two important things...my husband caught him cleaning a certain something, which he had fully inserted in his mouth, and the fact that his anus and other bits are pretty far apart. Thoughts? If I can get a good picture of him when he wakes up, I’ll attach it later.

Re: Male...but no testicles
I'm no expert on Syrians so I can't really tell from the photo if they're retracted, if that were the case you would see them when he's warm, or if they haven't descended something that does happen very occasionally, not sure but I would imagine that might need checking by your vet.

Re: Male...but no testicles
That is a male. It may be that he got put up for sale younger by accident or because he is still a little nervous being handled he is retracting his testicles so you are not seeing them. Some hamsters keep them well tucked up anyway. I wouldn't worry too much unless he is showing signs of something being wrong.

Re: Male...but no testicles
Definitely a male there! I’ve noticed (from a very young ham I had once), that young males don’t usually have very prominent testicles. They become more apparent as the hamster ages. It’s likely that, as souffle said, he’s simply younger than the store may have advertised. A cute little guy btw

Re: Male...but no testicles
I took my Dumpling home and everyone thought he was a girl. Till around 4 months old, we found his egg, only after he woke up from sleep(the period where testicles are most apparent). Maybe you want to give him more protein so he can build up his masculine faster? lol

Re: Male...but no testicles
Thank you so much! Alfonzo's happy to hear that he is a male! He hasn't shown any health issues. He's very happy and healthy! Thank you!
