Default Teeth and Infection. Help!

Hi All

I hope you can give me some advice. I took my little hammy Frosty to the Vet last night as I noticed their top teeth had seemingly disappeared. Whilst she was there they noticed she has a urine infection and gave me antibiotics to give to her and some slushy food to give her via a syringe.

Does anyone have any tips on administering them? I have tried to hold her in a towel but as soon as I put the food in she spits it out again. I have used a rolling pin to grind out her muesli and nuggets and cut up her cucumber and carrot very small. I am just concerned that she's also spitting out the antibiotics.

Most hams will take antibiotics ok mixed with either hamster safe baby food (check ingredients) or just porridge, if you only use a small amount, no more than half a teaspoon, they will usually eat it all without any problem & you can be sure your ham has had the whole does.

What's the slushy food for?
If she's having trouble with her teeth you can soak some of her mix for her she should be able to manage that.

Thanks. It is a smallest amount of antibiotics (no where near half a teaspoon) is why it's supposed to be in the syringe I guess.

The slushy food is, as far as I can tell, just that. Food. As her top teeth have seemingly vanished (the vet couldn't find any trace at all, so it doesn't seem to be chipped) he gave to me to be eaten through another syringe (which she hates and I find it hard to comfort her).

I meant half a teaspoon of baby food
If she really doesn't like the soft food the vet gave you then stick to the crushed soaked mix & baby food for now & see how she goes with that.
If her top teeth don't grow back then she will need her bottom teeth trimmed regularly, usually about every three weeks.

Ah, that makes more sense. I start doing that (would she be able to eat mashed up wheat biscuits?).

Yes I know about the teeth. Hopefully they'll grow back. I'm just perplexed at how they fell out.

Do you mean breakfast cereal type wheat biscuits or sweet biscuits? As long as it's quite soft with nothing she needs to chew too much it should be ok.

Wheetabix but the Aldi version. I was going to mix crumbs with water and put it in there and maybe put it on a spoon and let her eat it

They do go pretty soggy so it should work ok, you could try using just a tiny bit of milk to make it more appealing for her.

Hi,
My hamster Carmen doesn’t seem to have any top teeth either! The vet confirmed it 3-4 weeks ago. Since then, I’ve had to take her to the vets again as her teeth got too long and she can’t eat a lot of solid food (she hasn’t even touched her whimzee chew!). Well, the latest vet visit was a disaster and she didn’t know what she was doing! So one of Carmen’s teeth is around 3-4mm bigger than the other! Because of this, and the fact it may be a long term issue, I want to start trimming them myself. However, I don’t know how to hold her so I can do this. She’s very squirmy so even if I scruff her she wriggles out. I think I should get someone to hold her whilst I trim. Has anyone trimmed teeth themselves and what is the best way to go about it?

Thanks
