Unhappy Syrian with wet fur?

I have a 2 year old, long-haired syrian (Stuart) and I’m noticing some worrying things about his health. I also have a (nearly 3 year old) russian dwarf and I’ve been so worried about his health issues I haven’t noticed my baby Stuart’s until recently 😔

Stuart has the most beautiful coat, but recently he’s lost a lot of it around his back area. This hasn’t concerned me as I know that old hamsters naturally lose hair, he also had a little bit of wetness underneath him but I assumed he just didnt clean himself properly. However today I looked at him throughly and his fur appears to now be wet all underneath him and his coat looks scruffy. He also has a black mark on his neck but it doesn’t look like a tumour or a scab. He appeared to be adgitated but he let me pick him up without any problems. I don’t know what could be wrong, I looked up symptoms online but I’ve found nothing. Wet tail came up as a possibility but he has no bad odor or no diarrhoea. In fact I noticed his feces appeared hard. I only recently changed his bedding so it’s fresh, I gave him more tissue for his hut anyways, just in case.

I will go to the vet but I always like to come here first for opinions so I can prepare myself for the worst outcome. If anyone has any ideas what he could have or what I could do to help I’d appreciate it❤️

Default Re: Syrian with wet fur?

It's hard to guess really, he is a good age so fur loss & looking a bit scruffy could just be down to old age, not sure about the wetness unless he's been sleeping in pee?
Is he eating & drinking normally?
If he's drinking more than normal as well it is possible he may have Cushing's but it could just be age symptoms so if you're really concerned I would see your vet, hope it isn't anything too serious.
