Accidentally scared hamster very badly!
Hi ya'll,
I need some advice for my little syrian, Freddy. Today, as I was cleaning out his soiled bedding, he was on a platform above the first floor (so he wouldn't interfere in the process). Since he was elevated, he tried to climb out of his cage. I got startled and lowered the cage lid (it's a wire cage) in order to try to stop him from escaping, but the wire touched his head. It hit him lightly (not really hit- more like put pressure) on his head and he jumped like I've never seen him do before, and started shaking. He's now in his hideout and has been ever since the incident.
I'm just a bit concerned that he'll never trust me again. I've just been starting the taming process recently, but after this will he ever be able to trust/love me? Also, could this stress cause him any harm (i.e. wet tail)?
Thanks for all the advice for this new hamster owner

Re: Accidentally scared hamster very badly!
I wouldn't worry too much, give Freddy a little time to settle again & he should be fine, it doesn't sound as though anything too serious happened & a small fright like that shouldn't do any lasting harm to his health or your bond with him.
