very sick hamster behaviour
Hi, it turns out my Tooms isn't very well, he has a tumour in his ear and pushing on his eye. Since I brought him home he's been squinty in one eye I've been keeping an eye on it but it looked wetunder his eye? Is this normal, also he's been laying down with his eyes open but in his tubes. I just want to make sure this is normal behaviour with yhis kind of sickness as I really don't want him uncomfortable or to suffer. Thank you for any info you can give :,(

Re: very sick hamster behaviour
If he is not behaving normally then there must be a reason and you need to look closely at his quality of life. The wet under his eye is likely due to the tumour pressing on the tear duct so it is not draining the tears from the eye. It could also be blocked. Sometimes the laying in small tight areas is them showing pain as they try and hide from it or it could be that he is escaping from sensory overload due to the tumour. It must be quite painful now if it is pushing into the eye socket and these behaviors are a sign he is no comfortable. I'd ask the vet again and decide if you feel he has had enough.

Re: very sick hamster behaviour
This morning he seems much better and happier, I don't think it's time yet thank God but if he's starts with these behaviours again I am surely going to have to decide. He drank ate tries to have a run on his Wheel and went to the bathroom properly then actually settled down in bed
