Default Hamster Missing Eye.. Possible concerns?

I currently own one syrian hamster and have owned 2 dwarf hamsters prior. I am going to be fostering and hoping to re-home 3 hamsters next week from my dad's work. His friend's son was housing 3 hamsters in a tank (not sure of the size of tank or breed of hamster just yet). Apparently one of the hamsters was attacked by the other two and lost its eye and has a head injury. I was wondering how I should go about this with taking care of the injured hamster and what care considerations I should take while taking care of her? All 3 hamsters are female, and I will obviously separate them when I receive them. Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

It's great you are taking these guys in and sounds like they have had a tough time of things. Until you get them you won't really know how old the injuries are or what state they are in.

It goes without saying that if it is a recent injury then a vet visit will be in order. If it is old wounds and all healed up then it will be a case of just letting them settle and observing them for any odd behaviour (head injuries such as spinning etc).

We look forward to hearing more about them when you get them and i'm sure the members will be quick to help with any issues that may be present.

So today is the day I got the hamsters. There is 4 of them, and they came in a nice 40 gallon tank with a lid with an overall good setup which I was pleasantly surprised to see. They actually are chinese hamsters, so I am new to owning them as this is my first time housing chinese hamsters, and also housing hamsters together.

As for the one with the missing eye, it seems like the wound is old and healed, however I did have a spare tank and I chose to separate this hamster from the other 3 as I was concerned of another fight, but I am watching closely to monitor her. The other 3 seem to be doing fine in their tank, just a little stressed out from the big move. I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on the 3 of them to monitor any bickering that might arise. Any tips for housing chinese hamsters together?

Chinese hamsters are now considered to be a solitary species & should be kept separately.

Great to know. I’ll be sure to separate them ASAP, they seem to be ok now

They may be ok for a little while but it's very likely they will fight so keep a close watch on them.
They're very agile little things so enjoy things to climb on but mostly they love lots of deep substrate to dig & burrow in so at least 15-20 cm of substrate, more if possible, they tend to like lots of little hideouts too.
They nearly all pee in the wheel, something you get used to don't over clean the wheels though, once a week is plenty, just wipe with a damp paper towel.
