Help! My Hamsters eyes are leaking??
Aah I'm so scared, I just stopped crying. It's 10pm and I just got ready to put my little Anko (The Syrian hamster) back into his cage, and I noticed that both of his eyes have watery discharge staining the fur around them slightly.
I got a tiny bit of tissue and gently wiped his eyes, and a brownish fluid came out. He also peed himself... I'm so scared! I don't want him to die. He's not 2 years old yet.
He seems to be acting slightly sluggish but when he was out he was very active, so that might be why. But his eyes are kinda half shut. It's too late to take him the vets, will he die?! Is there anything I can do to help him...? I'm so heart broken right now.

Re: Help! My Hamsters eyes are leaking??
The brownish stuff is a fluid secreted from the back of the eyes usually when they have an eye infection or due to being generally unwell. Eye infections are quite easy to treat with some drops but I think it would be wise to have him seen at the vets tomorrow and have a good check over. Hopefully the vet can find what is making him act out of sorts. he may have felt pain when you lifted him and this could have made him wee on you.
If he is lethargic too then something sounds wrong. He is a very good age at nearly two though remember and they can develop problems as they get older.
Good luck at the vets and let us know how he gets on .

I have good news! He's completely fine, the vet said it doesn't look like an infection and to check back if he gets worse, but she says that he looks completely fine. ^-^

Glad to hear he seems fine. Keep a close eye on him though and don't change his bedding or food and ensure you don't use any air fresheners, candles or scented sprays near him as they can irritate the eyes and nose.
