Is it time to say goodbye?
I have a winter white dwarf hamster who is a year and a half.
Lately, he’s been losing a lot of fur on his belly and legs, and he also chewed his leg so hard that he got a wound. Sometimes, he just screams. When I’m not in the room, when I’m in the room, in the middle of the night etc and I’m just thinking that these may be signs that he’s in pain. He is also not eating, just drinking water, I have to refill his water twice a day.
I don’t know what I should do anymore. If he is suffering, I don’t want to be selfish and keep him alive just because it makes me happier.
What is the best thing to do?

There is obviously something badly wrong with him and you really must see a vet as soon as possible. He does sound to be in a lot of pain and you need to take the vets advice after he has been examined. I hope you have have him seen very soon and get an answer so you can make a decision.

I have actually seen a vet and she just told me to “wait it out” because he’s old and will probably die soon.
But to me that is not humane at all.

Sorry to hear your hamster is so unwell, he really does need to get to the vet as soon as possible, I hope they will be able to help him but until you've seen them you won't really know if he can be treated or if it is his time now.

I would try and find another vet or go back and if you feel he needs rest then make that decision and tell them so. I hope his path is gentle x

Re: Is it time to say goodbye?
Sorry I missed your second post before, agree with souffle that it would be best to try & find another vet, a good vet wouldn't leave an animal in obvious pain to just wait it out, I hope you can find someone more caring to help.

Re: Is it time to say goodbye?
I would second seeing a different vet, especially if the first one didn't even give you any Metacam for pain relief. He clearly has some painful illness or condition and as suffering. Try googling exotic vets in your region. You might need to travel a little bit further (they know more about hamsters). Or if there aren't any close enough, I find reading info on the web pages helps you get an idea of how good the vets are - reading under individual vet profiles eg. Some say things like they have trained with small animals abroad and are committed to their health and wellbeing etc. Others are just vague. At the very least he should have some pain relief.
