Default Rosie is having an operation for lump

Rosie my Roborvpski is now 2 years old. She can no longer dig tunnels(she makes indents to sleep) and has a lump which has bled. I have taken her to our vet who thinks it's movable and therefore hopefully benign and she has to go in on Thursday to have it checked under anaesthetic. If it is he will remove it. If it's not he will just wake her up. He thinks she will be ok for this. So I just wondered is there anything I can feed her that would help her recover quickly if she does have the operation. Or is there anything I can bring with her to help her recovery. Come to that that has anyone had a operation on their hamster at a similar age and where they ok. Thanks

There have been other members with hamsters of a similar age go through this type of surgery & recover well, a lot depends on the individual hamster but there's a good chance Rosie will do fine.
There aren't really any special foods that you need to give but you would most likely need to give some meds after the operation & that's easiest done with a tiny amount of soft food, either hamster safe baby food or porridge, this usually works well with most hams.
If she's on antibiotics afterwards then you might want to give a probiotic like Pro C (available from P@H or other pet shops) for a while too, don't put it on water though just sprinkle it on food a few hours apart from meds.
If Rosie still enjoys her normal food then just keep up with that, a good variety of veg if she's used to those will give extra vitamins & other nutrients which may help her recovery too.
Good luck with her, hope all goes well.

Thank you cypher. I will get some baby food/porridge in case she needs medication. I did wonder how I would get that in her without stressing her out. Our vet was very good and didn't touch her much as I bought a washing up bowl with some of her bedding in so he could examine her.(when I got her I took her for a free check at p@h and She fell off the table so I didn't want this to happen again). I have to admit that I was worried taking her because of her age but I'm glad I did and our vet thinks she will recover so I decided to go for it. If it turns out to be a non benign tumour he wont operate. I'll have to see if my local pet shop sells pro c as I haven't gone in p@h since I got Rosie and Daisy. I'll make sure she has a variety of fresh veg to help as well. Just a thought how do you know if the baby food is hamster friendly. Thanks

Just check the ingredients in the baby food to make sure there's no onion or spices or anything else that is unsafe for hamsters, the ones for babies 4 months or under are much less likely to have onion in.
Mine all love the cauliflower cheese or plain veg ones but don't seem so keen on the meat ones but they all have individual tastes.
