Hamster Ulcer Advice
Hello, I have a 7 month old, male, LongHair Teddy Bear Hamster.
He snuck out of his 3 days ago in the morning and I came back at night after school and work to find him. He seemed fine, just thirsty and sleepy.
The next day, my girlfriend noticed he was limping and not acting his Hamilton self.
So we took him to the vet for the first time.
He was dehydrated so they gave him fluids under the skin.
He also have two sores on his feet and a small minor scrape on his belly side.
They prescribed him metacam and something for his respiratory. They administered both medicines there to show us how to.
They gave him 0.5 metacam and I would give the next dose in 12 hours. However the vet called and told me that it was labeled wrong and they gave him the wrong dosage, which was supposed to be 0.15. So I shouldn’t give him any for 24 hours.
The next day I checked on him and he had diarrhea it was gdoing well. So I called and they said not to administer any until today.
I check on him today, he has been eating and drinking water and sleeping as he does normally during the day.
But I picked him up and noticed he has what seems to be an oozing Ulcer. I don’t know if I should do at home care? I have an appt with the vet in 4 hours,!75 as you know they will either lance it and give antibiotics or surgically remove (I do not have the money to necessarily pay for such an invasive treatment with a college student salary) but I do love Hamilton.
Anybody have Advice? Personal experience with Hamsters with an ulcer or vet treatment for one or at home treatment?
Thank you!

Re: Hamster Ulcer Advice
I think you need to have him seen and make sure they know you are not happy about the meds dosage being given wrong.
Was it injected at all and is the ulcer on the injection spot? If it was it could be that the amout has caused an injection site burn. This does happen. I hope he gets on well and they can treat this. Is there any chance he has eaten something like mouse poison or anything bad when he got out?
