HELP! Blood coming out of female hamster urine
Hello, I'm pretty new here.
Few days ago I notices blood coming out of my female syrian hamsters ladies parts. It didn't seemed so bad at first, and she seemed to be active as normal, so I just thought maybe she's just on her period. But now it looks way worse, and I don't know whether it's serious or not, because other than that, she seems completely fine, she eats and drinks, and runs on her wheel like every other day. She doesn't seem to be peeing blood though.
Any advice?
(Photos of her are attached below)

Re: HELP! Blood coming out of female hamster urine
You need to see a vet with her. Blood from the female vents is never good and could indicate a womb infection which is very serious in a female hamster (pyometra) Try and get a hamster experienced vet that knows what to do with hamsters. Hamsters don't have periods and they should not have blood stained discharge like this.
I hope you can get her seen soon and the vet can help. Females with a pyometra will typically behave quite normally till it is quite advanced so the quicker she is seen the better.

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that your hamster may possible have a hernia but I hope everything goes well at the vets today. Fingers crossed!
Although from your photos your hamster looks to be a male.

Spot the person who did not look at the pics! Yes that looks to be a male hamster there.
Males can get urine infections but also a prolapsed penis which may require easing back in to position.
Can you feel bulges at the back? Those are the testicles.

Re: HELP! Blood coming out of female hamster urine
That's crazy! When I've bought Rapunzel, I was told she's a girl (hence the name) by a guy who works at pet shop, and I've obviously had no reason to think otherwise (I have two more hamsters, Syrian girl and male Roborovski, bought from the same shop, I wonder now did they got their genders right!) Well, I'll see what vet tells me later today, is Rapunzel is actually a boy!

Re: HELP! Blood coming out of female hamster urine
Did you call her Rapunzel because of the long hair? Only male long haired hamsters have the long flowing skirts where as females are sort of fluffy all over but not so long. It can be harder to sex long coated babies so they may have made a mistake. It's common to get the sexes wrong in pet shops!

Re: HELP! Blood coming out of female hamster urine
So it turns out, my lil girl had a penis infection.
Vet cleaned it out, and gave me some antibiotics (for Rapunzel, not for me haha)
Check up is in couple of days, I hope he'll get better!
Thanks you for all replies, it was really helpful x
And yes, I named her Rapunzel because of long blond fur, she did looked like a little princess (and still does) . Rapunzel and Rorschach are my first Syrian hamsters I've ever owned, so I couldn't really tell the difference, I thought people who work at pet shop would be able to tell hamsters apart

Re: HELP! Blood coming out of female hamster urine
It’s good that your vets were able to determine what was wrong with (Mr.) Rapunzel - I hope with antibiotics his infection should clear up in no time.
Pets shops are often not very accurate with their sexing of hamsters and so make mistakes - and as souffle mentioned long haired babies are harder to identify too. Although he looks and sounds like a very sweet hamster.
