My hamster broke a tooth should i change the cage ?
I've only had my Syrian for about a month, she did cage bite at the start but I havnt seen or heard it since. Last night I noticed she has broke her bottom tooth. I call my vet she said wait a few day and see if it turns grey or she's not eating or drinking to bring her in. She has loads of toys and chews and the cage 80X50x50..... I don't know how she broke it, just wondering should I get a tank instead or wait and see if the cage was the cause ? Any suggestions would be great !! I feel so bad about her tooth I'll do whatever she need!!

Re: My hamster broke a tooth should i change the cage ?
I think it's very likely all that bar chewing caused her broken tooth. I think she may be chewing things in her cage at night, does she have an hard things in her cage? Check if any toys in her cage have any chewing marks. I don't think she could've just broken her tooth by bar chewing alone. However, the metal they used may be stronger than on other barred cages. And finally, is they're anything really hard or may have become stale in her food or maybe one of her toys are really hard where she's chewing and that's causing the problem?? Try testing all of these possibilities and I'm sure you may come up with an answer, they answer might be one or a combination of these things!

Re: My hamster broke a tooth should i change the cage ?
It's possible she could have got her tooth caught in the bars if she had been chewing them, that is often a cause of broken teeth, they don't normally break chewing normal chews, toys etc. although it's possible she may have got the tooth caught in something other than the bars, have a good check around the cage to see if you can spot anything that might be a problem.
Keep a close eye on the tooth & make sure she's managing to eat ok for now.
If she doesn't appear to be chewing the bars generally then I wouldn't stress her with a sudden change right now, wait & see how she goes.
