Thank you everyone once again. I’m hoping it won’t be anything too serious but we’ll have to wait and see. I know hams are good at hiding pain, the only change I have noticed is that she has started to gnaw her tile. Nothing has chipped off and I’m probably going to remove it but I don’t know if it is because it is new (only added a few weeks ago) or if she is in pain and it is irritating her? I have ordered Daisy’s cage and will order Lola’s at a later date, depending on the situation.

Hi guys, she had a vet appointment this afternoon and it turns out it is an abscess. The vet managed to knock a scab off and drain the puss from it, flushing it out too. She has put her on 0.012 ml of Enrobactin (antibiotic) to be diluted in 0.2ml of water twice a day. Her cage has had to be arranged with a puppy pad instead of bedding and the removal of anything that could catch on it.

Taking the antibiotic is proving pretty hard. I did persevere with a syringe and even added a tiny bit of juice but I ended up soaking the medicine in a small piece of brown bread and she had eaten half of it so far, fingers crossed she will finish the rest of in a while. Hopefully by tomorrow morning she will be a bit more used to it and will eat it all. Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks again

That's great news that it's an abscess & not a tumour, has she ever had any baby food before? I find that's the easiest thing to mix meds with, if she's never had I guess it could be a bit of a risk if she doesn't like it but I've found the 4 mth baby cauliflower cheese has been a hit with all of mine & those that have needed meds have been happy to take them mixed with that, porridge is another option if she likes that, only use a tiny bit though to be sure it's all eaten.
Hope the meds get to work quickly & she'll be better soon.

Like cypher I used a variety of baby foods and porridge. I had to give daily meds for a year to my boy and by using a rotation, he never missed a dose. I used veggie based baby foods as he did not like fruit. So ones like, veggie risotto with turkey, peas peas peas, cauli sweet potato and broccoli, that sort of variety. Hip Organic did some or Ella's kitchen. All in the supermarket. I used an ice cube tray to divide up the pot into doses. The jar can only be kept open for 48 hrs. I would pop them out of the cube tray into a plastic freezer bag for storage. You won't need to be so organised and elaborate, but you get the idea. I was in for the long haul but never expected it to be for a year.
Hope this helps.

Hey, sorry for the late update! Thank you for reminding me about baby food- it has worked a treat! Lola had a check up this evening and the vet is really happy with her progress. Where the vet had opened the abscess, the scab has healed nicely and she seems happy eating and running on her wheel etc. Therefore, we just need to finish the antibiotics and unless it comes back, she doesn’t need to go back to the vets again! I’m so happy that she is doing well!

Thank you everyone for your advice and help!
